WORLD DRIVE — Afterhours
WORLD DRIVE — AFTERHOURS / VERSION 0.9.1
A Three.js browser street racer built around detailed artist cars and early-2000s night racing.
FOUR CARS: Nissan 350Z, Honda NSX, BMW 1 Series M and Porsche 911 Turbo. Every stock car is available in Quick Race. Buy cars to keep separate garage builds.
THE WORKSHOP: larger labels, clearer spacing, contextual symbols, helpful explanations and animated focus. A fixed car sits on an alignment deck. Change paint, finish, alloy colours, aero and handling; buy and fit three levels of engine, tires, brakes, nitrous and suspension parts. Buying a garage car is separate from free Quick Race.
THE GRID: choose your circuit, race options, car and starting grid. Afterhours Avenue now passes a covered market, cinema marquee and lit gardens with varied photographed facades. Harbour Run uses freight halls, pitched roofs, loading bays, cranes and a layered shoreline. Highline Circuit crosses a parallel interchange and a continuous curved tunnel beside a scanned rock cutting. Four physical racers compete from a standing start.
THE NIGHT: warmer boulevard and market lamps contrast with cool harbour worklights and tunnel lighting. Outlined skyline crowns, photographed night reflections, wet-road detail and subtle water ripples give each district its own atmosphere. The scenery is prepared before the countdown to reduce mid-race loading hitches.
THE ROUTE: a cyan arrow follows the road ahead and anticipates bends. It warns about the wrong direction and shows the final finish approach. Larger race position, lap and timing labels share the low-resolution console picture.
THE DRIVE: progressive steering travel, heavier chassis settling, speed-dependent tire limits and separate car profiles. Impacts bounce and compress the body with particles, camera response and contact sound. Chase movement follows the settled car heading; interior views use clean cuts.
THE PICTURE: a real 512×384 scene and HUD by default, stronger curved CRT glass, soft colour bleed and warm night reflections. Balanced uses 640×480; High uses 960×720. Classic 4:3 and widescreen are available. Street backing walls, side returns, foundations, paving and harbour retaining faces close gaps in the three circuits.
CONTROLS: W/A/S/D or arrows; Shift nitrous; Space handbrake; C camera; M map; Escape pause; Backspace checkpoint recovery; F fullscreen. Menus use arrows, Enter and Escape. Click inside the game for keyboard and sound. Desktop keyboard is the primary tested input.
PROGRESS: local browser saves, separate fitted builds and personal bests for each lap count. Existing 0.5 Three.js progress migrates into the starter Nissan.
SOURCE: editable game code, retained artist models, conversion programs, reference study, complete licenses and browser QA receipts are included in the Source download.
ARTIST CREDITS: Nissan exterior by Blue3D / Blueberry12, CC BY 4.0. BMW by Mike Pan, CC BY-SA. Honda/Porsche and furnished cabins from credited Speed Dreams / TORCS artists, Free Art License 1.3.
